Is My PAXI Parcel Ready to Collect? What to check before you go
A parcel may be close to its destination without being ready for collection.
Seeing that your PAXI parcel is moving toward a collection point does not always mean that you should visit the store immediately.
Before leaving home, look for a clear arrival notification, confirm the correct PAXI Point and make sure you have the information needed to collect the parcel.
How Will You Know When the Parcel Is Ready?
The clearest confirmation is normally an arrival SMS sent to the receiver’s registered mobile number.
PAXI says the receiver is notified by SMS when the parcel arrives at its destination PAXI Point.
This arrival message includes a Collection OTP, which is used during the collection process.
Your parcel is more likely to be ready when:
- You received an arrival or collection SMS;
- The message says the parcel reached its destination;
- A Collection OTP or PIN was provided;
- The destination PAXI Point is identified;
- The latest tracking information confirms arrival.
A delivery estimate, unchanged status or message showing that the parcel is still moving should not be treated as confirmation that it can already be collected.
What Does the Collection SMS Contain?
The arrival message may include information such as:
- Confirmation that the parcel has arrived;
- The destination PAXI Point;
- A unique store or point code;
- A Collection OTP or PIN;
- Instructions related to collection.
Read the complete message carefully. The parcel number used for tracking and the Collection OTP serve different purposes.
Parcel number → used to identify or track the shipment
Collection OTP → used when collecting the parcel
PAXI Point Code → identifies the collection location
Do not publish or casually share your Collection OTP. It can be used as part of the parcel handover process.
Confirm the Correct PAXI Point
Do not assume that the parcel was sent to the closest PEP or PAXI location.
The sender chooses a destination PAXI Point when arranging the shipment.
If the location named in the SMS is unfamiliar, PAXI advises using its store locator and searching by the unique PAXI Point Code to identify the exact collection location.
Before traveling, confirm:
- The store name;
- The suburb or address;
- The PAXI Point Code;
- The current operating hours;
- That the location matches the arrival message.
This is especially important because PAXI Points may operate inside different participating retail stores, not only PEP locations.
What Should You Bring to Collect the Parcel?
PAXI’s current guidance says the receiver needs an identification document to receive a parcel.
Its FAQ also explains that another person may collect on the receiver’s behalf when they have proof of identification and the Collection PIN.
Prepare:
- Your valid identification;
- The arrival SMS;
- The Collection OTP or PIN;
- Your mobile phone;
- The parcel or tracking number as a backup;
- The correct destination information.
Current accepted identification listed by PAXI includes:
- RSA Green ID Book;
- RSA ID Smart Card;
- RSA driver’s licence;
- Passport.
Check current official requirements before visiting, as accepted documents or procedures may change.
Can Someone Else Collect the Parcel?
PAXI currently states that a friend or family member may collect the parcel on the receiver’s behalf, provided that person has proof of identification and the Collection PIN.
Share the PIN only with the trusted person who will collect the parcel.
They should also know:
- The receiver’s name;
- The correct PAXI Point;
- The parcel number, when available;
- Any instructions included in the collection message.
What If You Received an SMS but the Parcel Is Not at the Store?
First, confirm that you visited the exact destination shown in the arrival message.
A similarly named branch or nearby participating store may be a different PAXI Point.
Check:
- Whether the PAXI Point Code matches;
- Whether you entered the correct address in the locator;
- Whether the SMS definitely confirms arrival;
- Whether the store has finished processing the parcel;
- Whether the parcel was already collected by another authorized person.
Keep your SMS, identification and parcel number available.
When the store cannot locate the parcel despite a valid arrival message, use PAXI’s current official support channels so the shipment can be checked.
PAXI currently lists WhatsApp, telephone support and a contact form on its website.
What If You Did Not Receive a Collection SMS?
Your parcel may still be in transit, or there may be a problem with the registered mobile details.
Ask the sender to confirm:
- The receiver’s mobile number;
- The selected destination point;
- The parcel number;
- The latest SMS received;
- The date the parcel was sent.
PAXI advises customers whose phone number has changed to contact the company because an incorrect number can prevent collection notifications from reaching the receiver.
Do not travel to the collection point based only on the expected delivery date.
Wait for a clear arrival confirmation or obtain live information through an official channel.
Do Not Leave the Parcel Uncollected
PAXI warns that parcels left uncollected at the destination may eventually be returned to the original drop-off point.
If they remain uncollected after being returned, further handling rules apply.
For that reason, check the collection message promptly and avoid delaying once the parcel is confirmed as ready.
Collection Checklist
Before leaving home, confirm:
- I received an arrival or collection SMS;
- I have the Collection OTP or PIN;
- I confirmed the correct PAXI Point;
- I checked the store address and operating hours;
- I have valid identification;
- I saved the parcel number as a backup;
- I am visiting the location shown in the message.
A parcel should be treated as ready for collection only after you receive a clear arrival notification or confirmation through an official PAXI channel.
